Like a shadow slipping through the undergrowth - and with eyes to light the way, and pick out the path ahead - a black she-cat slid into the clearing. Ebonystar's movements were like liquid satin, suggesting that she was much more calm than she actually felt. In truth, her eyes were ever-watching for danger; in the same way, her ears were straining to pick up even the slightest hint of movement.
The LedgeClan leader paused as she neared the Crystal Pool, eyes flicking back and forth to indicate any form of hazard in her way ahead of time. She hated this, really; feeling like she was being hunted in her own territory. All because of NightClan - those sinister shadows that went by the name of a Clan, yet refused to follow the Warrior Code and prove themselves as such. There was something so dark and mysterious about those cats...And also, something unmistakably dangerous.
Looking back over her shoulder to make sure that Mechapaw was still following her, Ebonystar edged out of the tree line when she was sure it was safe. Thankfully, so far it appeared that her apprentice's first training exercise would be undisturbed - yet she felt she must be ready for anything, even the completely unthinkable. She could feel her heart pounding, and even though she willed it to slow, the edgy fear was still there, no matter what.
But she was determined not to show it, as she turned back to watch Mechapaw intently. "Welcome to your first training session," Ebonystar said warmly, smiling a bit at the memory of her own first such experience. "Now, Mechapaw - today, I'll be teaching you some of the basics of hunting. Just ask if you have any questions; I'll be happy to answer them as best as I can."
