Earthheart waved away the suggestion with her tail. "Bah. I'll just get an apprentice to run for what I need." She settled beside Flickerstep.

Shiningstream returned shortly, panting. "All right, I think everyone's back, but I'll do a quick run-through in just a minute." Crouching beside Earthheart, she mewed. "Anything you need? I have time, and I want to make sure Flickerstep will be all right."

Flickerstep watched the cats quietly, eyes switching from one to another. " I'll be fine. Earthheart will make me better." She meowed quietly. " Shiningstream, who were those cats? And what do they want from us?" Foxfur murmured, standing next to the Deputy.

Shiningstream traveled her eyes from Flickerstep, finally to her brother. "Foxfur, those cats, those that hurt your sister, is NightClan." The young deputy choked back the rest of the words, sudden feelings of hatred burning for that one cat: Ripred. "They are evil spirits, ones that have been dead before, but they gave themslef a second chance. Every cat they kill, they obtain that cats life, making it their own. Just like the old deputy, that's how she died..."

Sharkfang arrived through the bushes and saw that Earthheart was back. Thank StarClan! he thought in relief. He hadn't been at the fight but by looking upon those who were wounded, he could tell that NightClan was no small threat. A sharp pain flood through his mind; What if I was there? Would Willowclaw have died then? The thought of the beautiful she-cat's death was too much for him. After all, they were planning for kits in the spring. In effort to clear his mind, Sharkfang offered his help to the Medicine Cat. "Earthheart, can I be of assistance?" the warrior suggested as he was padding up to the limping she-cat.

Shiningstream stood up instantly, happiness flooding her expression to see that Sharkfang and the others had made it back. Still, a saddened look pierced his eyes. 'Willowclaw...' The thought of the previous CreekClan deputy too made her upset. But now she cleared her head, nudging Sharkfang. "Earthheart said she'll be fine. Is everyone back?"

"Yes. I was going to send an apprentice, but none of them know my herbs." She sighed. "I wish I had an apprentice. Can someone get me marigold petals, gumweed, comfery roots and cobwebs?"

"I'll go," Shiningstream mewed. Dashing off, she made sure that the Clan boundries were safe and everyone was back. "Where's Snakestar...?" she asked herself. But right now she couldn't worry. The leaders knew how to handle themselves, and right now she had to go and find the herbs needed to help Flickerstep. She had to make sure that she could prove to herself that even a loner-born could succeed a Clan cat.

Sharkfang nodded and started looking for the cobweb that Earthheart had asked for. It wasn't too long before he found a shining web on a low branch near one of the dens. Dew drops hung there still from the humid morning and the spider seemed to have left. With a paw, he wound the fine silk and rubbed it off onto a small twig lying on the ground. He took it in his mouth to the Medicine Cat. "Here." he said simply, sorrow came through his voice unexpectedly.

The CreekClan deputy found the marigold and comfrey roots easily, trotting back to Earthheart with a mouth-full of supplies. "I couldn't find gumweed," she announced sadly. "But I'll take Sharkfang with me to find more, if you tell me where they are." Shiningstream had felt a pang of sympathy for the tomcat. He and the previous deputy had planned for kits, and seeing the solemn gleam in his eyes, he still couldn't get over it. Purring, she nudged his shoulder to snap him out to listen for Earthheart's orders.

Sharkfang looked up at Shiningstream. "I know where some is; I saw it on one of the patrols." He stated plainly. The heartbroken warrior started towards the edge of camp.

Shiningstream padded after the injured tom. 'I feel bad for him...' She never understood what true love was, but she did know what it was like to be torn. The tortoiseshell was lonerborn, and her decision to break away from her mother was troublesome and sad. Shiningstream purred, trying to lighten Sharkfang's mood. "Is this gumweed close?"

"Generally. It's near the FireClan border, which isn't too far." he replied back with a warm smile. Sharkfang was pleased to have Shiningstream at his side. The loneliness of death was slowly fading and finally being replaced by happiness. "Thank you, Shiningstream."

Seeing the happy glint in Sharkfang's eyes, she purred joyfully. "You're welcome Sharkfang." Shiningstream was glad that the tom was looking better after a painful moment. The deputy hated seeing any cat, especially him, upset. Nudging his shoulder playfully, she spotted the FireClan border, hoping that the gumweed was close. Eyes widened, she turned to Sharkfang with a happy grin. "You were right!"
