Shiningstream's grin was contagious, Sharkfang smiled and brushed her fur as he bounced ahead. "How much will Earthheart need?" he asked. Joy swelled within him, and for the first time since that terrible event, he felt that he could go on even with Willowclaw in the stars. "Thank you Shiningstream for cheering me up." Sharkfang mewed warmly.

Shiningstream's eyes lit up as Sharkfang brushed against her, clearly very happy and recovering after Willowclaw's death. "You're always welcome," she purred, licking his ear. "I hate seeing you upset." Keeping in pace with the tom, she sniffed at the gumweed, motioning with the tip of her tail for Sharkfang to come over. "I don't think Earthheart needs much. Her cut is deep, but nothing that would cause permanent damage." She loved seeing Sharkfang so happy as her thoughts trailed off. Biting down on some of the gumweed, she nudged him lightly, pushing some of the herbs with her nose warmly.

((Not just for Earthie!)) Earthheart prepared the herbs she had, and used them on Flickerstep's wounds. About to administer them to herself, she remembered her broken paw. She would need to ask Shiningstream for honey and some extra cobwebs.

Sharkfang came over with no hesitation. "Lets take as much as we can, but leave a good patch so it'll grow back." he said knowlegably. For just a second, his heart began to swell with a brilliant feeling. The same feeling that he had with... Willowclaw. He thought with a sad smile. Could Shiningstream replace his beloved mate? No. he instantly thought. Shiningstream wouldn't ever like me the same way I admire her... Would she? These thoughts jumbled his mind to the point where Sharkfang had to shake his head to disperse them. He bent his head to pick up the gumweed. Maybe...

Shiningstream looked over at Sharkfang, a sudden swell of warmth inside her. Sharkfang had a glimmer of confusion in his eyes, as if he was trying to decide something. She leaned against his shoulder, purring. 'Could I like him?' she thought to herself. But her thoughts were soon clouded by his love for the dead deputy. 'Would I be able to replace Willowclaw?' She didn't want the handsome tom to forget about her, but would he be able to make room in his own heart for Shiningstream? 'Maybe...' Leaning down, she picked up a few of the stalks of gumweed, smiling wamrly at him as they head back for camp. "Thank you, for helping me."

Flickerstep moved her eyes round, yowling. " Flickerstep, shut it." Foxfur meowed, poking her. His sister grinned, and wined slightly, at the movement on her face. " It will leave a scar, won't it?"

"It probably will." Earthheart answered te question, wincing as she felt her own wounds pull at her healthy skin. She finished applying the herbs she had and waited for the two warriors to return with the gumweed.

Sharkfang stood there a moment longer and then realized that the herbs were in need of urgent delivery. "Lets go." he suggested. In a flash he raced off towards camp and when he got there, Sharkfang immediately dropped the herbs near Earthheart. "I am sorry it took so long." he meowed to the Medicine Cat.

Shiningstream was right next to him, dropping her patch of gumweed. "I hope this is enough," she mewed urgently. The deputy was praying that Flickerstep would be okay, but by the way she moved about, it couldnd't have been serious. She turned to Sharkfang. "May I have a word with you?"

Sharkfang started to glow with warmth at the request from Shiningstream; but that feeling began to fade into nervousness. "Of course, Shiningstream." he mewed gently. The worry of rejection flood his mind.

Feeling calmer, she sat down, giving her chest a few nervous licks. Shiningstream couldn't have a relationship with Sharkfang, or even get too close to him, if he couldn't let go. "Sharkfang," she began, looking up at the sky and taking a deep breath. "Willowclaw was a great deputy, and seeing you upset hurts me as well. But, have you ever wondered if you're ready to move on?" Shiningstream let her eyes twinkle to give him a hint, but she hoped that Willowclaw, whereever she was right now, wouldn't be angry with her

Sharkfang, surprised that she didn't reject him, gave Shiningstream's forehead a passionate lick. "You're right. It's just that... that Willowclaw was so close and now she seems so far." he said trying to hold back tears. The heartached warrior put her head on Shiningstream's shoulder and just let his tears flow. "I... I love you." he mumbled finally. As soon as he uttered those words, he turned to flee towards the depths of the forest.

Shiningstream watched in shock as Sharkfang ran from her. But she loved him too! Turning tail, she ran after him, hoping that she could catch up. "Sharkfang, wait!" she called out. The deputy could just make out his running form. "Please! I love you too!" Letting her emotions spill out, she kept on running. "Please..." she mumbled to herself. "Please let him stop." Shiningstream loved Sharkfang, just like he loved her. She hoped he had heard her.

Sharkfang slowed upon hearing her words. He had heard her following him and hoped that she hadn't stopped, and he turned back towards her. "You do?" he asked slowly. The brightness in his eyes glimmered hansomely in the fading sun, and he knew that Willowclaw approved.

"Yes, Sharkfang," she mewed, partly lovingly and part out of breath. "That's why I wanted a word with you." She padded up to him, covering his face with licks. "Haven't you ever noticed? You never shunned me because I was a loner who became deputy. You've been my friend from the start. I do love you." Shiningstream purred against Sharkfang's cheek. Looking up slightly, she hoped that Willowclaw wasn't angry.
