Willowstar picked her head up from her nest and blinked sleepily at the cool morning light filtering in from the entrance to her den. A fresh breeze whirled around the drowsy leader, tell-tale of a rainy afternoon. Within a moment more, the grey she-cat stood slowly and stretched her muscles with pleasure. It was a beautiful morning and for once, it wasn't bitter cold. Willowstar padded to the opening of her den and stepped into the warm spring sun to shake her fur. From where she was, it didn't seem like many others were awake yet, so she continued on through the brush tunnel for a quick hunt.
(Cats are invited to follow =^_^=)

"Good morning, Willowstar," a gentle voice laughed softly. "Mind if I join you?" Iceheart padded over to her leader. She stretched, her white fur ruffling in the wind. As a medicine cat, she didn't get to hunt often, unless they counted herbs.

Willowstar smiled when she heard the friendly voice. She let her tail rest on Iceheart's shoulder for a moment before letting it slide off. It was nice to see her Medicine cat away from her den. It hadn't been easy since the Great Journey. "I'd be glad to have you with me." She slowed and matched Iceheart's pace.

Slateshard, the newly appointed deputy, strode up to the two she-cats and gave them a sharp, curt greeting before continuing past them into the lush undergrowth of the budding forest. He was growing with the built up anxiety within him and he couldn't wait to get the satisfaction of leadership among the clan cats that he had known since kithood.

Iceheart gave him a slight nod as a greeting and smiled at Willowstar. She had hoped her smile did not seem fake for she felt it was. Something inside of her, or maybe StarClan, made her feel uneasy around the new deputy.

Willowstar nodded in greeting toward Slateshard and turned to look at Iceheart uneasily. In a hushed whisper that only Iceheart could hear, she commented, "I don't know if my choice was correct. He doesn't seem to be the same noble warrior that he was when I first appointed him." Her gaze grew stony as she look on after her new deputy.

He felt the cold, hard eyes pinned on his back as he continued on with a smile. Slateshard soon caught a whiff of a mouse and went blazing on after it. It wasn't but a moment before it hung from his jaws lifeless.

The pale leader pondered her many thoughts and decided to set them aside for the moment. Afterall, all deputies go through this phase right?

Iceheart smiled in agreement. She was glad she wasn't the only cat who felt uneasy around the new deputy. The two she-cats padded into their hunting grounds. Iceheart stuck her nose into the air, sniffing for any prey nearby. She stalked a small, plump vole and pounced. Within seconds, the vole was dead. Her mouth watered as she tasted a bit of the warm blood. She dropped it and buried it. "The prey is starting to come back," Iceheart purred happily.

"At last. It seems like an eternity since I saw prey running like this." Willowstar streaked after a squirrel and before Iceheart had a chance to speak, the leader bushed back through the grass to meet her, the squirrel hanging from her teeth. "Sadly, we haven't had any kittings this year. Usually, the clan would have at least two new kits by now..." She trailed off with her words in worry.

Iceheart gave Willowstar a reassuring smile. "You shouldn't worry about that, Willowstar," she meowed. "For now, you should worry about your warriors. I'll worry about all of the other stuff." Her blue eyes gleamed with laughter and she smiled.
