Icewhisker trotted happily down the the Lake. She was really happy this morning. Finally she had the time to release some of her unwanted energy. Her ears were pricked up listening for prey that might be scuffling around or a fishing slapping the surface of the lake. The only sound she really heard were her feet lightly padding on the ground as she made her way to the lake shore. Icewhisker stopped before she came to the sand and took in a deep breath of fresh air. It was good to be outside. Suddenly, she heard some sticks crack behind her. "Who's there?" she meowed. Icewhisker really wasn't in the mood for 'scare me' games.

Waffle, the elderly loner, stuck his pink nose out from underneath a bush. "Huhroh dar," he spoke around a bundle of sticks. Pushing himself out from the bush, he stumbled awkwardly and fell face-first onto the ground. He acted as if this happened all the time, slowly placing each of his paws on the ground and lifting himself up slowly. The loner set the twigs down and sat before the CreekClan warrior. "Great StarClan! What is a clan cat doing up so dang early? Whippersnappers like you should be in your beds sleeping!" After a long chain of mumbling and light-hearted cursing (lol), Waffle dipped his head politely, "Anywho, I am Waffle. Plezzure tah meet yah, young kittybopper."

Icewhisker relaxed her tensed muscles. It was only that loner she had heard her clanmates talking about. The she-cat dipped her head in greeting, "Hello Waffle. I'm Icewhisker. And I came out here hoping to catch some prey for the Clan." Under her breath she muttered, "After all we are running pretty low..." She quickly looked back at the elderly loner and smiled. He wasn't as mean or weird as some of her clanmates had told her he was. All he was, was an old lonely cat who wandered around and fell on his face once and a while. They probally just had some sort of grudge they were holding against Waffle or something other. Icewhisker shrugged in her mind and returned to the present. "So what are you doing out this early?" she asked him.

"Aha! 'Tis a good question, dear kittybopper! What would a lazy ol' kittypet be doing out here during this freakishly cold morning?" He smiled and chuckled softly. "I, as it so happens, am gathering short sticks." Waffle pointed to the whimpy pile with his tail. Although the snowy ground was clearly littered with thousand of twigs he looked at his lump of sticks with an innocent grin, or only as innocent of a smile as the old loner could find.

Okay, Icewhisker thought. Why would collect sticks? The she-cat's face was all messed up with confusion. Cat's don't collect sticks, only beavers did that. Quickly changing her facial expression, she looked back up and examined the loner. He was a rugged and sort of crazy looking cat. But still, why would he be collecting sticks? "Uh. But why are you collecting these sticks?" she asked Waffle.

"Oh, the sticks? Heh. Well, they're only for a bit of fun, you see." A sly, light-hearted grin slid across Waffle's lips. "I shall show you if I happen to meet you again young kittybopper!" Without another word, he snatched his sticks and sped off past Shadowstorm. He sprinted for a bit, then hid when he could not run any longer. Waffle, still out of breath, chuckled to himself silently. Ah, what great fun kittyboppers were! Careful not to make a sound, he arranged his sticks neatly on the ground beneath the evergreen bush out of sight.
